BWI Airport & Then a Plane Enroute to YYZ, Sunday Afternoon

Part of the preparations for their trip had involved Watts being briefed on what was and was not allowed to be carried on to an airplane. As absurd as Watts found most of the rules, he did obviously abide by them, meaning their trip through the security line was uneventful, if somewhat tedious. Also, hey, the first real test of Watts's modern identity papers!

So, security, and then waiting at the gate- where Watts's attention had first been drawn by the wine bar but apparently there would not be enough time to sit and properly enjoy a glass before they had to board. What was possible, however, was a stop at some place called 'Auntie Anne's' which sold hot pretzels.

"Would you care for one?" Watts asked Steven as he tugged him towards the counter.

As the one with experience with modern - well everything, but also airports, Steven was keeping most of his focus on watching the time, listening for boarding announcements, and making sure Llewellyn didn't accidentally do anything to get them in trouble with security. Which was not completely over now that they were at the gate area, but at least it was better and allowed Steven to relax a little and enjoy the experience a bit more.

"Yes, please," he said. "Who knew there'd be soft ones available?"

Steven had never really paid attention before, since all the times he'd previously been in airports he'd not had a beau who loved soft pretzels so.

"Not I, though it is a pleasant discovery," Watts said, as he fumbled for his wallet and ordered them a pretzel and glass of lemonade each.

"It's like they knew you were coming," Steven said. He really had not paid attention to soft pretzel stands in airports before. Granted some of that was also due to how infrequently he was the one in airports. Or, if he was, how little of the experience he was fully present for. "Do you want extras to bring with you on the plane?"

Steven had no problem assuming Llewellyn would eat one pretzel before boarding.

"A marvelous idea!" Watts said approvingly, adding a couple more pretzels to their order. "Truly, I don't know what I'd do without you."

Steven bumped their shoulders together. "My job to take care of you, after all."

Watts beamed brilliantly at him, handing the lemonades over for him to hold while he secured the 'extra' pretzels on his watch chain.

Taking his lemonade back, he looked at Steven expectantly. "Where to now?"

"Could sit near our gate?" Steven suggested. "Good spot for you to people watch and see other planes coming and going?"

"Sounds good to me," Watts said, around a bite of pretzel.

Steven put his hand on Llewellyn's back as he steered them through the other people and over to seats near the windows. "Here we are. Think this is a good spot. Can see them making the announcements and all over there, planes out there, people all around us. You like it?"

"Oh, y-" Watts started to say, and then he caught a glimpse of the tarmac. "Oh, criminy." Instead of sitting down, he was now standing at the window, practically pressed up against the glass.

Steven watched Llewellyn with affection, feeling a fond warmth inside as he saw Llewellyn experience something new. "You like?"

"I saw photographs on the google," Watts said, clearly awed. "I knew modern aeroplanes were- much larger than the ones I'd seen before. But I did not realize how massive they are."

Steven put his hand on the small of Llewellyn's back again. Not to keep him from wandering, just to touch. "It is impressive. All that and they manage to fly."

"How they manage that at all is beyond me," Watts said, a soft smile springing to his lips at the warmth of Steven's hand on his back.

"Very complicated technology," Steven said. "Some of which was invented by the Tony Stark of our world."

The Tony Stark of their world being one of two people who had their face plastered all over the world in memorial homages that had been one of the things they'd gone over in Llewellyn's earlier visits. (Natasha Romanoff being the other one).

And the warmth of the hand on his back was joined by a pleasant feeling in his chest at hearing that 'our'. That one little word did more to solidify the idea that he belonged here than his excellently-forged passport holding up to scrutiny by the security officers had.

"Clever fellow," he commented, taking a sip of his lemonade.

"Many said he was," Steven agreed. Tony Stark himself had done it frequently, for example.

Steven took a bite of his pretzel. "It's not bad, yeah? Do you like it? Meets your expert approval?"

Watts took another thoughtful bite of his own pretzel. "Not as good as the ones from the cart back in Toronto," which felt a bit odd to say when they were headed to Toronto. Or at least a Toronto. "But certainly better than some I've had since arriving in Fandom."

"Oh!" Steven said, as he thought of it. "Can I take your photo? Commemorate you at the airport with your pretzel?"

"If you'd care to," Watts said, already holding out a hand for Steven's drink so that his beau would have a hand free to grab his mobile phone.

"Very much," Steven said. He patted himself down for his mobile. "Happy memories, yeah? Want to keep those."

Successful in his search, Steven held his mobile up to frame Llewellyn for a picture. "Here we are. Ready?"

Having bent down to put their drinks safely out of the way, Watts straightened up- well, as much as he ever really did, pretzel in hand, and smiled at Steven. "Ready," he confirmed.

Steven smiled at him. "Right. Three, two, one - "

Steven took the photo.

"Now one with the both of us, please," Watts requested.

"Love one," Steven said. "Selfie or shall we ask someone?"
