BWI Airport & Then a Plane Enroute to YYZ, Sunday Afternoon

Part of the preparations for their trip had involved Watts being briefed on what was and was not allowed to be carried on to an airplane. As absurd as Watts found most of the rules, he did obviously abide by them, meaning their trip through the security line was uneventful, if somewhat tedious. Also, hey, the first real test of Watts's modern identity papers!

So, security, and then waiting at the gate- where Watts's attention had first been drawn by the wine bar but apparently there would not be enough time to sit and properly enjoy a glass before they had to board. What was possible, however, was a stop at some place called 'Auntie Anne's' which sold hot pretzels.

"Would you care for one?" Watts asked Steven as he tugged him towards the counter.

Steven had expected as much. "It's the pressure. They need to pop. It'll help if you yawn, or open your mouth as though you're about to."

Steven opened his own mouth to demonstrate.

Watts followed suit, shaking his head when his ears finally did pop. "What a curious sensation."

"Bit strange, isn't it?" Steven agreed. He gave Llewellyn's arm a quick, gentle rub. "But see? You're managing it. Like an expert already."

"The whole process is fascinating," Watts admitted. "Certainly less convenient than a portal. And perhaps even a train for shorter distances, when you factor in all the time it takes before you even board the aeroplane." Not to mention going through customs once they reached the other side. "But fascinating," he repeated.

"Portals are new ones for us as well," Steven said. He glanced around but they weren't speaking loudly enough to be overheard. Also it wasn't as though portals were unheard of, just uncommon. "Normally only people with magic can make those here."

"Strange how accustomed we've become to being able to access those," Watts mused.

"Perhaps because we've been lucky," Steven said. "No mishaps as others have had."

"Aside from our last visit to Toronto," Watts reminded Steven.

Being able to take a portal from Toronto to New York would probably have been a very effective way of making sure they hadn't been followed.

Still, they'd been able to get back home, which was the important part.

"That we got stuck," Steven clarified, since he couldn't read the narrative to know they were already on the same page. "Not able to get back to the island."

"True enough," Watts acknowledged. "Though if we did, at least it's- at least we're in the right world." Unlike if they'd gotten stuck in Toronto.

Though now he was frowning, thinking about how if they did end up stuck they'd be leaving poor Raphael- and Midnight- and their fish- behind.

Steven noticed the frown. "Everything all right?"

"If we got stuck," Watts said, because of course they'd always be together, he was very pointedly not thinking about the possibility of Khonshu needing Moon Knight's services for something off-island and Steven and Marc getting stuck without him. "We'd have- the three of us. But the rest of our family. Would be left behind."

Steven hugged Llewellyn's arm, not caring if anyone saw. "We'd find a way to fix it. As I've said, there's people here who could help. Different people who've nothing to do with the island. We'd find a way."

Sure neither he nor Marc had met any of the Sorcerers Supreme here but that didn't mean they couldn't find them and introduce themselves.

"I'd never leave our family behind," Steven said. "I promise."

Watts let out a deep breath. "All right," he said. And then: "Sorry."

He reminded Steven so often not to borrow trouble, and now here he was doing just that.

"It's all right," Steven said, rubbing Llewellyn's arm gently. "I'd go spare if something happened to them. Or you. Marc would as well. Of course it's something that might worry you to think of."

"I've only just got myself a family," Watts said. "I couldn't bear to lose it."

"Oh love," Steven said. He leaned over to give Llewellyn a proper hug now, though he'd stop in an instant if Llewellyn wasn't comfortable with the gesture.

Watts held on for a few moments before pulling away.

"We would find a way." Watts said, echoing Steven's words. Even though whatever would be done would more likely be Steven and Marc's doing than his, realistically.

You never knew! There could be research needed. Or perhaps Watts and Wong would have things in common besides short last names beginning with W.

"I promise," Steven said. "It's our family. Won't let anything happen to it."

Watts nodded, grateful for the distraction when the flight attendant came back around to ask if they wanted anything to eat; the flight was too short for a hot meal, but they did have several boxes with a variety of packaged snacks available, including a vegan one. Which… yes, obviously.

Steven asked for one of the vegan boxes as well. Yes, they had pretzels, but he wanted to be sure there was plenty for Llewellyn to enjoy about the experience, including extra snacks.

Watts tore in to a little package of cookies, handing one to Steven.

Steven took it, charmed by the automatic gesture. He slipped his bag of pretzels into Llewellyn's box. "What would you like to do now? Besides eating?"

That was something reserved for Steven specifically. There were a handful of people Watts might ask if they wanted some of whatever snack he had, but only Steven got the automatic offer.

“I suppose- see what the television has to offer.” Though he didn’t anticipate paying attention to it terribly long.

"All right," Steven said. He looked around. "Sometimes the headphones are near. Otherwise we'll ask."
