BWI Airport & Then a Plane Enroute to YYZ, Sunday Afternoon

Part of the preparations for their trip had involved Watts being briefed on what was and was not allowed to be carried on to an airplane. As absurd as Watts found most of the rules, he did obviously abide by them, meaning their trip through the security line was uneventful, if somewhat tedious. Also, hey, the first real test of Watts's modern identity papers!

So, security, and then waiting at the gate- where Watts's attention had first been drawn by the wine bar but apparently there would not be enough time to sit and properly enjoy a glass before they had to board. What was possible, however, was a stop at some place called 'Auntie Anne's' which sold hot pretzels.

"Would you care for one?" Watts asked Steven as he tugged him towards the counter.

"I see," Steven said. "So it counts as one of yours then?"

“That’s what I had thought?” Watts said. “Because I chose the activity?” But now he sounded less sure.

"No, no, it makes sense now," Steven said. "I thought maybe, I don't know, you picked it as something you know I already like. At the expense of something else you'd rather do."

Based on no evidence of course. Steven just worried sometimes.

“Well, I wasn’t going to make you do something you’d dislike,” Watts pointed out with a frown.

"Which I'm grateful for," Steven said, thinking of downhill skiing. "So long as you're not missing out on anything you enjoy?"

“Not in the least,” Watts said. “I promise.”

"All right," Steven said. He relaxed against Llewellyn, his worries now eased. "Couldn't bear it if you were giving things up for me."

“You know I’ve never felt that way,” Watts reminded him gently.

[hasaknightjob]

"I know," Steven said. "And I've worried about that less with time, I promise. Just sometimes it pops up again is all."

“And I shall remind you of the truth whenever you need,” Watts said, because Steven did the same for him regarding the things he worried about. “I have gained so much from life with you, my darling.”

"Like family," Steven said, meaning it for himself as well. "That's been the most amazing thing to gain."

“Precisely,” Watts smiled at him.

Anything further he’d been about to say was interrupted by the ding of the seatbelt light turning back on, followed by the pilot’s announcement that they would begin landing soon.

Steven checked to be sure all of the things he was bringing with him, like the extra snacks, were safely put away. "The pressure will change again as we're landing. Nothing to worry about."

“Right,” Watts said, following suit as far as getting his things together, stuffing his various snacks in his bag or any available pockets. “Thank you for the forewarning.”

"If you try yawning on the way down that might help as well," Steven said. "If you start feeling that sensation in your ears again."

“I will keep that in m- oh!” It wasn’t as if it was a sharp downturn, but the change in motion was detectable enough that it had Watts grabbing for Steven’s arm.

Steven put his hand over Llewellyn's arm to provide extra comfort. "It's all right. There'll be a bump at the end as well, when the wheels touch down."

A process which seemed to take agonizingly long, but not as long as taxiing to their arrival gate.

“Does it always take this long?” Watts wondered. They were back on the ground, yet the seatbelt sign had yet to turn back off.

"Usually," Steven said. "They need to wait until we're at the gate for safety. Nice bit is that since we're up here we won't have as much of a queue to get to the door."

“Good,” Watts said. “I’m desperately needing to stand up and stretch out.”

At least they hadn’t been in economy, or Watts would be feeling even more cramped at the moment.

"On longer flights that's a bit easier," Steven said. "Not that people march up and down the aisles, but taking a moment to go to the loo, that sort of thing."

Watts gave the door to the bathroom a dubious look. “I can say that’s one experience I’m glad I didn’t need to undertake,” he admitted.

"Maybe next flight?" Steven said, grinning to show he was joking.

“Scoundrel.” Watts just shook his head, breathing a sigh of relief when the aeroplane finally stopped moving and the seatbelt sign turned off again.

"There we are then!" Steven said. "Your first flight. Successful at that. How do you feel?"
