BWI Airport & Then a Plane Enroute to YYZ, Sunday Afternoon

Part of the preparations for their trip had involved Watts being briefed on what was and was not allowed to be carried on to an airplane. As absurd as Watts found most of the rules, he did obviously abide by them, meaning their trip through the security line was uneventful, if somewhat tedious. Also, hey, the first real test of Watts's modern identity papers!

So, security, and then waiting at the gate- where Watts's attention had first been drawn by the wine bar but apparently there would not be enough time to sit and properly enjoy a glass before they had to board. What was possible, however, was a stop at some place called 'Auntie Anne's' which sold hot pretzels.

"Would you care for one?" Watts asked Steven as he tugged him towards the counter.

Watts gave the door to the bathroom a dubious look. “I can say that’s one experience I’m glad I didn’t need to undertake,” he admitted.

"Maybe next flight?" Steven said, grinning to show he was joking.

“Scoundrel.” Watts just shook his head, breathing a sigh of relief when the aeroplane finally stopped moving and the seatbelt sign turned off again.

"There we are then!" Steven said. "Your first flight. Successful at that. How do you feel?"

“Like I need to stretch,” Watts said, gathering his things as he stood.

And once they were off the plane, he did just that, to the point of actually standing up straight instead of his usual slightly hunched posture.

Steven bumped their shoulders together. "Made it through. Congratulations."

“Thank you,” Watts said. “And thank you, again, for- indulging me in this.”

"Thank you for sharing it with me," Steven said. "Think I'd have been jealous if someone else got to."

“Who else but you would I have wanted alongside me?” Watts pointed out.

"Well, yes," Steven said. "But I mean different circumstances. You had to travel and I couldn't join you for some reason."

Watts frowned. “I don’t think I particularly care for that idea,” he admitted as they reached the line for customs.

Once again his documentation held up to scrutiny, and soon enough they had their bags collected and were in a car on the way to their hotel.

Steven settled in beside Llewellyn in the cab. He looked out as they made their way to the hotel, because now this was a new experience for him too.

Watts too was paying rapt attention to the streets as they passed them by, looking for- similarities, differences, even he wasn't quite sure.

It wasn't long before they reached their hotel, and were shown up to their room, which came decorated with a bouquet of flowers.

But it didn't stop there, of course. Because there was also a cake and a bottle of champagne on ice.

Watts looked over at Steven with a grin, eager to see what he would think.

Steven looked around, taking it all in. A slow look of delight spread across his face. "Is this - for me? For us? It's wonderful!"

Watts bounced on his heels. "So you like it?" he asked, completely unnecessarily.

"It's amazing!" Steven said. He put his bags to the side and went over to the flowers. He smiled when he saw the arrangement. "Sunflowers and all. That's you, isn't it? You told them to pick these, right?"

"I did, yes," Watts told Steven. "There were other, more extravagant arrangements, but- this one felt the most suitable."

"No, no, this is perfect." Steven went over to give Llewellyn a kiss. "Just like you. Thank you, love."

"You're very welcome," Watts said. "I know it was all- a bit last minute. So I wanted you to know how much I appreciate you."

Now Steven was even more melted. "Who's wonderful then? You. And cake as well? Should we try a slice now or wait until later? Are you hungry?"

"I could eat," Watts said, because he was basically always hungry.

Never mind that he'd polished off his two extra pretzels between the plane and cab ride, and still had a number of packaged snacks.

"It's holiday, right?" Steven said. "Could have cake whenever we like on holiday."

Steven brightened, smiling wider. "Like pie for breakfast!"

Watts gave Steven a delighted grin. "Like pie for breakfast," he agreed, moving to open the bottle of champagne and pour them each a glass.

Steven went over to cut them both slices of cake. "Oh! It's mocha! Did you know that it's mocha?"

Watts nodded. "There were fruit options, and those were tempting, but something about this one- I don't know. It felt like the right choice."
