Midnight Manor Private Residence, Wednesday Evening

“There we go,” Watts said, sliding the rosemary foccacia into the oven.

“The pasta recipe calls for canned purée,” he continued, “but it seems a shame given fresh tomatoes are in abundance right now. I looked up how to make it ourselves and it doesn’t seem complicated at all. What do you think?” he asked Steven. There were enough fresh tomatoes to make said purée laid out on the counter, but also a can ready to go in case that was deemed too many steps.

Well now Steven was both delighted and had heart eyes for his beau. "I like that very much. I enjoy any excuse to dance with you."

Good thing there was a timer set to make sure the bread didn't burn while they kept getting distracted. Not that it was going to be done anytime soon but, well, these two did have a history.

“Glad to hear it,” Watts said, leading Steven across the kitchen in a few steps before turning them
back towards the counter, and the tomatoes.

Steven got a knife so he could start cutting the tomatoes as the recipe said. "Perhaps later? After dinner? You and me and a dance?"

“I would like that very much, Steven Grant,” Watts told him, grabbing another knife to help with the cutting.

"Another good way to mark the occasion," Steven said. "Between your bread and all that I feel it'll give our home a proper start of things."

Yes they'd been living in it for over a week now, but living and fully moved in were two different things.

“Very romantic of you,” Watts said.

"I like to think our home always will be," Steven said, smiling at him. "Romantic. Full of love. Love of all sorts, really."

“Something which our home will surely appreciate as well,” Watts pointed out with an answering smile.

"It's been doing well so far, hasn't it?" Steven asked. "Our residents seem happy. Liking their rooms and all."

Steven was thrilled about that on multiple levels, frankly.

“It has been,” Watts said. “I’m quite proud of how welcoming it’s been towards them.” Not to mention all the little things the House did for its permanent residents.

"That's you there," Steven said, as far as where he considered credit to be due. "Figuring out it was lonely."

“Yes, well,” Watts said. “It’s too bad it had gone so long without anyone else figuring it out. Though on the other hand, selfishly, if someone else had it likely wouldn’t be our home right now.”

"Or our residents's home," Steven agreed. He thought about what he knew of them so far. "I get the feeling some of them need the place. More than somewhere to sleep, I mean."

Watts nodded as he finished up chopping his portion of the tomatoes. "You're not the only one to get such an impression."

Steven got a bowl - needing two tries to remember where they'd put those sorts of bowls - for them to put seeds in as they cleaned out the tomatoes. "Arden in particular. Not that Illyana isn't also someone I've got my eye on. But she does have a family at home she seems to be happy with."

And Gonzo mainly seemed in need of an audience, which Steven was happy to be a member of when the time came.

"Mmm," Watts hummed. "She did seem a bit- skittish."

"And worrying about owing people anything," Steven said. "To say nothing of that man calling Marc out of nowhere to pay for everything."

"Very odd, that," Watts agreed. "I understand not wanting to be in anyone's debt, of course, but..." it seemed as if there were more to it than just that.

"Marc's already been thinking if something goes wrong with her rent she won't be charged," Steven said. "Possibly come up with some sort of job for her to do so she doesn't feel as though she's being put into debt."

Not that Marc cared about people or anything.

"That's kind of him," Watts said, approving but unsurprised.

"Between you and me," Steven said - and given their situation Steven actually double checked the reflections to confirm it was him and Llewellyn alone - "He's serious about being responsible for everything. Not just Midnight but anyone in it."

"I know you were concerned about him- being somewhat adrift," Watts noted as he worked on scooping out tomato seeds. "So that ought to be good for him. To have something meaningful to focus on."

"I mean it's his way, isn't it?" Steven said. "Taking things on. Only in the past it's gotten him into trouble. Thinking he's got to take things on alone of all things."

Steven gave an eyeroll because of course he was uniquely positioned to react to the idea of Marc being alone.

Watts bumped Steven's shoulder carefully, mindful of the fact that they were both working with knives.

"Not an issue anymore. Even if he's taking point, he's got both you and myself to lean on."

Steven was giving Llewellyn heart eyes again. "I love you very much, you know."
