“There we go,” Watts said, sliding the rosemary foccacia into the oven.

“The pasta recipe calls for canned purée,” he continued, “but it seems a shame given fresh tomatoes are in abundance right now. I looked up how to make it ourselves and it doesn’t seem complicated at all. What do you think?” he asked Steven. There were enough fresh tomatoes to make said purée laid out on the counter, but also a can ready to go in case that was deemed too many steps.

"Even should we swap which day we're to do lunch?" Watts checked, giving Steven a careful once-over.

"If I know we're doing it," Steven said. He thought about it so he could give Llewellyn a complete and honest answer. "If you surprised me it would be a surprise, but I trust you to set me right if it confused me. That's the part where it's you that matters."

"If I surprised you with lunch on a week where it was meant to be your turn, it would be because I desired extra time in your company," Watts told him. "If it ended up confusing you regarding whose turn it was that week, of course I'd set you right. Always, darling."

"I know you would, you always do." Steven gave him a one armed hug, doing so carefully so as not to disturb the cooking. "Part of why I feel safe with you. I know you'd never let me get lost. In reality or my own mind."

"You are far too precious to me for me to ever let that happen," Watts promised him solemnly.

Steven ducked his head, feeling a warmth inside of him. "Always hoped someone would find me precious."

“I do,” Watts said. “Very much so. You are the love of my life, the keeper of my heart, Steven Grant.”

Well now Steven was positively melted. He laid his head against Llewellyn's shoulder. "That's a wonderful title. Keeper of your heart. I like it."

“Yours alone to claim,” Watts told him.

Steven lifted his head enough to smile at him. "I like that part especially. You being mine?"

Did Steven remember having promised that to Llewellyn during that fateful lunch together? Yes. We did mention the memorization, right?

And in the early days, Watts had been inclined to answer with ‘as long as you’ll have me’. Now, though?

“Always.”

Cooking or not, that was getting Llewellyn a very long kiss.
