MHA #14, Sunday Morning

Last night had not gone entirely to plan. Or... at all to plan, really, things having gone off the rails mere minutes after Watts and Steven had arrived at the bar. Which is not to say the night as a whole went badly. In fact after that initial derailment the metaphorical train that had been their date night had found another, equally as pleasant, track to go down.

A track that had yes, shockingly, resulted in Watts staying the night at Steven's place.

"Mrrrrn," he murmured into Steven's shoulder. It was, in theory, meant to be a 'good morning'. Unfortunately Watts wasn't quite awake enough to make proper words happen. But chances were Steven wasn't either, so really, he was pretty much just mumbling to himself.

Steven looked at Llewellyn curiously. "Did you think I would find someone I fancied more than you?"

He didn't want to say it, but he also couldn't very well lie about it, so he said nothing.

"Oh, Llew," Steven said, with sympathy. After all if he'd suspected for a moment that Llewellyn might have been interested in finding someone who could give him the life Steven couldn't - well Steven would've understood but it would've crushed him all the same.

Instead Steven reached out to cup Llewellyn's face in his hands, so they could look eye to eye. "Love, never. There could never be anyone as wonderful as you. I'm beside myself I got to meet you at all. There's no one who could replace you."

"Oh," Watts said softly, and then he was surging forward, to wrap his arms around Steven in a tight hug.

Look, when the people you loved had a habit of dying or leaving you behind... eventually, you came to expect it.

Steven hugged Llewellyn back tightly. "Oh, love. I told everyone I met I'm happily taken. Well - didn't tell Jaye. Only it didn't come up either. Had to lead with me not being Marc and then we talked about him the whole time. But everyone else knew I wasn't looking. Only for friends, that's all."

"That is what I told people as well," Watts said into Steven's shoulder. And the same had been true for most of them as well, or at least they'd been understanding that he wasn't interested.

Still hugging, Steven moved a hand up to gently rub the back of Llewellyn's neck. "And here I thought you hated the crowd."

“Wasn’t thrilled with it,” Watts confessed.

"It was a lot of people," Steven agreed. Which he hadn't minded but he knew Llewellyn preferred otherwise. "But as many as there were there was only one person there I wanted."

“I apologise,” Watts said. “For- my moment of doubt regarding that.”

"I know it wasn't you doubting me but doubting yourself," Steven said, to show he didn't mind. Especially since he would've been in a similar place if there'd been someone who seemed more suitable for Llewellyn. "I want you. I promise. You're wonderful for me."

“Steven Grant, I do love you so,” Watts told him.

If Llewellyn was going to say it that way he was also going to get kissed. No alternatives in the matter. "I love you as well, Llewellyn Watts."

“Not entirely sure what I’ve done to deserve someone as wonderful as you in my life,” Watts said. “But I am so very grateful that you are.”

"I did mention how you are thoughtful and wonderful and romantic, didn't I?" Steven replied, grinning at him.

“Hmm, that you did,” Watts acknowledged. “Suppose if it’s you saying it, it must be true.”

"I wouldn't lie to you," Steven pointed out. "We promised."

"I know," Watts said. "So it makes me happy to know I must be succeeding in my attempts to be all those things for you."

"Very well, actually," Steven said. "Exceeding, I'd say."

"Grading me, are you?" Watts asked, but he was smiling now.

[hasaknightjob]

"Pretty easy to do when you're doing so well at it," Steven pointed out, grinning at him. "But we'll see how you do on the essay section."

"You've seen what my handwriting looks like. I wish you the best of luck in deciphering it."

That startled a delighted laugh out of Steven. Which he immediately followed up with a kiss to show his appreciation.

See, Steven, this is why you were in fact an excellent sweetheart. Not only did you not make fun when your boyfriend didn't get a joke, you genuinely appreciated the ones he tried to make.

Also a great kisser, A+++ would smooch again.

Steven had an incredibly fond look on his face when he pulled away. He caressed Llewellyn's cheek with one hand. "How could you possibly think I'd care for someone other than you?"
