Midnight Manor, Sunday Afternoon

Watts and Steven were having guests over on Tuesday for dinner, and not being the sort to do anything by halves, had decided on a few different pies for dessert as well as different types of bread to accompany the main course. And since that was a lot of baking to get done in a single day, they were making the dough ahead of time.

"In to the freezer with that one now," Watts directed, nodding at the batch they'd just finished.

Steven double checked to make sure the dough was wrapped up properly before putting it into the space that had been cleared in their freezer. "There you are. Nice and comfortable."

"Did you have a preference for which one to make next?" Watts asked, seizing the opportunity to wrap his arms around Steven's waist from behind.

Steven chuckled, delighted to have been seized along with the opportunity. "Don't think so? It doesn't matter what order we do them in as far as getting them chilled, right? No need to make sure to get some done ahead of the others?"

"Mmm, no," Watts acknowledged. "Unless there was anything you wanted to fully bake ahead of time?"

Steven turned just enough so Llewellyn could see his grin. "Only to eat ourselves, which seems cheating."

"I wouldn't mind," Watts pointed out, smiling back. "Cheating or not."

Steven leaned into Llewellyn. "There is our own dinner to consider."

"A very good point," Watts acknowledged.

[hasaknightjob]

"Be horrible if we starved before Tuesday," Steven pointed out. "Our poor guests expecting food of their own and all."

[pocketpretzels]

"Couldn't have that," Watts agreed. "It'd be very disappointing for everyone."

"Especially Raphael," Steven said. "Who would he steal bread from?"

[pocketpretzels]

"The neighbours?"

The closest of which were technically their boarders.

[hasaknightjob]

"They don't bake," Steven pointed out. At least not so far as Steven knew.

[pocketpretzels]

"Ah, but they grocery shop," Watts said. "Presumably."

[hasaknightjob]

"But the bread made by his dad is better," Steven said. "He told me."

[pocketpretzels]

"Did he now?" Watts replied with a chuckle Steven could probably actually feel, given how close they were together at the moment.

[hasaknightjob]

"Oh yes," Steven said. He put his hands over Llewellyn's to keep him close. "He's very fond of your work. Said he wouldn't mind a loaf with sesame on it for tonight."

"He wouldn't, hmm?" Watts said thoughtfully. "Well. What do you think? Should we acquiesce to his request?"

[hasaknightjob]

"I think we should," Steven said, oh so seriously. "He was patient while the piano was put in place. That's earned him a reward, I think."

As though Steven hadn't given Raphael pets and treats when he'd heard about it afterwards.

"That's settled, then," Watts said. "A sesame loaf up next."

[hasaknightjob]

Steven turned around to give Llewellyn a quick kiss. "My hero. I mean his. His hero."

[pocketpretzels]

"Mmm, what do you think he'd say to me giving the piano a test run?" he mused. "Or you. What would you say?"

Not that Watts knew any songs as of yet, but he'd picked up a few pieces of simple sheet music yesterday while they were out.

Steven's look of immediate excitement was possibly an answer all its own. But he also said, "Oh that'd be brilliant! I - I mean if you're comfortable doing it in front of me? Or - or I can be elsewhere, if that's what you're asking?"

"This would just be- tinkering, really. Perhaps trying out a basic piece," Watts said. "I think- I want you around for that."

Anything more involved, there would absolutely be practicing before he was ready to show anyone, even Steven, but just- playing (heh) around? That he could do in his beau's company.

"I can sit out of the way and be as quiet as you need," Steven promised. "Or as close as you prefer. Whatever you like."
