Pyramid Island, Jasper, Alberta, Friday Afternoon

Following their phone photography tour and lesson, Watts and Steven were taking the short walk across Pyramid Lake to the little island, with its spectacular views of the mountains- including, obviously, Pyramid Mountain in an effort to try out their newly-learned skills before they headed back to the lodge for dinner followed by stargazing back out on the lake again.

It was a lot of back-and-forth, yes, but worth it.

"A selfie first, I think," Watts declared as they made their way across the bridge.

Steven was distracted by how beautiful the scenery was so it took him a moment. "Hum? You or me?"

"Both of us together, darling," Watts said. "For the first photograph, at least."

"Oh right," Steven said, chuckling at himself for not realizing. "Yes, I'd like that very much. You and me together."

Admittedly, this style of photo didn't make much use of the tips they'd learned during their tour, but it was still one of Watts's favourites to take.

Especially since the fact that he would turn to give Steven a kiss on the cheek at the last second delighted his beau every time even though it was likely no longer much of a surprise.

It really did, as evidenced by how every time it happened the picture captured the happy look on Steven's face.

"New wallpaper there, I think?" Steven said. "For my mobile."

“You look dashing, as always,” Watts told him.

"And you look charming," Steven said. He took a moment to set his new wallpaper right then and there before he could forget. "As always."

“Charmed, more like,” Watts said fondly.

"Cheeky," Steven said with a smile. He looked at the other photos in his gallery. "It was a good class. I can see a difference already."

"I never knew there was so much to consider when taking a photograph," Watts admitted.

"I knew some," Steven said. "From that time Liz walked me through it. This got more in depth about doing it with your mobile, though, which is handy. Liz gave me more of a broad idea since at the time I didn't know what I might like."

"It's quite handy, having a camera right alongside all the other things a mobile phone is capable of," Watts said. "Certainly takes up less room in one's pockets."

"Leaving more room for snacks," Steven said, as though that was the obvious conclusion.

"You understand me," Watts said fondly.

Steven smiled at him. "Of course. Can't have you going hungry, can we? You're all right now, yeah?"

"Perfectly so," Watts said. "Yourself?" Steven wasn't a constant snacker the way Watts himself was, but he still was going to check in and make sure he wasn't hungry. That's what the pocket snacks were for!

"Doing all right," Steven said. He hooked one arm through Llewellyn's. "Frees me up to stay close to you."

"Flirt," Watts said, pressing a kiss to Steven's cheek.

"I mean if there's one thing I'm always hungry for, it's your company," Steven said. He looked around them. "This is so lovely. You picked a wonderful spot, Llew. I know you chose it last year but I'm glad we came back."

"I'm glad you're pleased with it," Watts said. "Exploring new places is always enjoyable, but there's something to be said about returning somewhere you've been before as well."

"Comforting and familiar," Steven agreed. He bumped Llewellyn's shoulder. "Except for the things they changed since last time, which you were kind enough to warn about."

"Situations like that are precisely why I find it important to do research ahead of time," Watts told him. "I don't care for being surprised, personally, and- I certainly don't want you feeling out of sorts either."

"So far I haven't been," Steven said. "It's been nice changes as well, like our firepit. Looking forward to giving that a go."

[pocketpretzels]

"If only they'd added a larger tub to the bathroom," Watts said with a dramatic sigh. "Then it might have been perfect."

There was the hot tub and sauna, but those were shared with other guests.

Steven smiled, bemused at the show of drama. "We can always make up for it when we get home? Something to welcome in the new year?"
