Stanley Park, Vancouver, Saturday Afternoon

One of the great things about a holiday was the chance for a lie-in, and that was exactly how Watts and Steven spent their Saturday morning. Followed by brunch, of course. Their evening would see them off to the opera, but until then they had the afternoon free.

There was a bicycle rental place near their hotel, and so Watts had convinced Steven to go on a short bike ride through part of Stanley Park, followed by a much more extensive tour via carriage.

"I cannot believe I forgot about the holiday today," Watts said a little sheepishly. In his defense, anniversary was a bigger deal personally than Dominion Canada Day.

Steven was seated in the carriage as close to Llewellyn as possible without any sort of laps being involved. Or Llewellyn's discomfort, for that matter.

"I think it's nice. We can pretend they're celebrating us."

"Oh, that's not until August, here," Watts deadpanned.

Steven looked at him curiously. "Why would they celebrate us in August?"

"I suppose not us specifically, but their Pride festival is held on the first weekend in August," Watts explained, clearly pleased with his little joke.

"Oh!" Steven said. He was rather delighted with Llewellyn's joke as well. "In which case yes, entirely correct. Even if they didn't think to hold it on our anniversary. I suppose we can forgive them."

"I can find it in my heart to do so," Watts agreed.

Steven chuckled. "You've been doing wonderfully again. Making this special, I mean. Thank you."

[pocketpretzels]

"You're very special," Watts affirmed. "Thank you for going on the bicycle ride with me." It had been a significant step from doing so alone in the Holosuite, after all.

"I didn't fall!" Steven said, rather proud of himself. He'd been wobbly at parts but had managed to stay upright. And not get anything caught in the bike chain. He was considering both of those to be not insignificant wins.

"No, you didn't," Watts said, leaning over to give him a kiss on the cheek. "A reward for a job well done."

Steven's smile grew at the kiss. He nestled closer to Llewellyn in response. "It wasn't a bad way to see the park. Got to go through more of it than walking alone. Though this is nice as well. The carriage, I mean."

"Mmm," Watts nodded in assent. "It's rather a large park, and while doing a complete circuit by bicycle is possible, I didn't want to risk falling asleep out of exhaustion during tonight's performance. Not to mention, this method of travel has particular benefits." Like being able to sit nice and close.

"Looking forward to tonight," Steven said. "My first opera. Bound to be interesting, yeah?"

“I hope you’ll enjoy it,” Watts said. “Well. Obviously. I would not have suggested it had I thought it likely that you wouldn’t.”

"You enjoy it though, right?" Steven asked. Because if Llewellyn was going to be having a good time then there was always the option that Steven could watch him enjoy it, even if Steven himself ended up neutral on the performance.

“I do,” he confirmed. “It was one of the main reasons I decided to pursue learning Italian, since that is the language of a number of popular shows.”

Not this show, it ought to be noted.

"Is it?" Steven asked. It said a lot about how suited they were for one another that Steven was now looking at Llewellyn as though he found him even more attractive for having learned this information about him. "Look at you being clever."

A pleased flush coloured Watts’s cheeks at the compliment. “Well. It’s nice to have a practical use for a language if you’re going to take the trouble, isn’t it?”

"True," Steven said. "But some might not bother all the same."

Steven was absolutely still looking at Llewellyn as though he was a tasty snack.

“I’ve never understood that,” Watts admitted. “Why bother watching if you can’t understand the language being spoken?”

Subtitles not being an option in the media he was accustomed to, after all.

"Maybe the acting gets you far?" Steven said. "If someone seems angry at someone else you know they're having a fight even if you don't know what it's about?"

Steven thought about it, then grinned. "Though funny to think of someone singing an aria because they're upset their partner didn't do the washing up like they promised."

“I suppose that’s true,” Watts said.

“Good thing whenever we cook we get the dishes done together after,” he continued. Even if sometimes ‘after’ was technically ‘the next day’ when it came to cooking dinner. “Though now I’m picturing Marc singing about you having left cereal bowls in the sink again…”

Steven waved that off. "He's far too fussy. They're soaking! It's fine."

Soaking totally counted as part of the process of cleaning, even if the bowls did not actually need it.

“Are they supposed to?” Watts asked. “I’ve always put mine straight into the dish-washing cupboard.”

[hasaknightjob]

"Depends on the dishwasher," Steven said. "We've newer ones here so it's not necessary, really. Still. Marc's too fussy by far. Doesn't hurt anything to leave things in the sink for a bit."

Steven never left things longer than overnight, after all!
